Travelling with Kids :-)
Well we made it to Atlanta. We started this morning at about 7:15 (thank you Caleb for waking up early) and got to the airport in plenty of time to get through security, eat lunch, let the food settle so we have no puking episodes, change Kietlyn's outfit (can you say blowout!) and get on the plane. The kids did fine on the plane. I just wish the stupid battery in this computer would last longer than 30 minutes so that Caleb could watch a full movie. I realized just how small airplane bathrooms are (2 feet x 2 feet).
We landed at the busiest airport in the USA and went to get our luggage. Half a mile later we arrived at our luggage claim. Yeah, it really was a half mile. They actually tell you how many feet you have to walk to get there. Like it's encouraging to see a sign that says 2000 feet till the baggage claim. Thanks for the inspiration.
We are at our baggage claim and Jenise has Kiet and Caleb and trying to keep Caleb corralled is like trying to tame a wild mustang, while I'm getting our luggage (49 lbs to be exact). I get the suitcase within 1 minute and then we stand and wait for our other 2 pieces for about 12 minutes. At this point I've seen the same bags go around the carousel about 22 times and nothing new is coming out. Our other 2 bags are yet to appear from the "great hole in the carousel". At one point I almost felt like I needed to throw down an offering into the hole to see if they would throw up our luggage.
Have you ever had the feeling that you had lost luggage? I hadn't really truly thought that they had lost our luggage until about 15 minutes of nothing new and other flights coming and getting there bags. Then panic hit. What we do without Caleb's carseat, the pack 'n' play, Caleb's Bible, my jacket, and all my toiletries (toothbrush, deoderant, etc). So I, like any other macho man decided to go have a look around and ask if all the luggage that we so kindly let the baggage handlers have had been unloaded from the plane. I get there to a lady who look like she had just gotten off of break (and was therefore happy to be at her job) and she proceeded to tell me that they had been scanned. Well that's good news, NOW WHERE WERE THEY? Apparently they call these types of items, "oversized" (no, she wasn't referring to me) and were at a different carousel. Thanks for sharing that. So I go over to these other carousel's for "oversized" luggage and retrieve our long (20 minutes) lost luggage.
Off to the rental car which is actually pretty cool because it has a GPS (Garmin not Tom-Tom) and it is sweet. Usually Jenise takes the job of navigator but this little black box that talks to me just might take over her job. (sorry babe) I now know what I want for Christmas (if any body needed ideas) -- GPS system!
So we're at the hotel. Settled in. Great room. Nice hotel. Everyone is sleeping but me because I just don't like going to bed early. Problem is my body only says it's 10:30 while the rest of the eastern time zone says it's 11:30. I need to crash so I'm worth something tomorrow. I guess I'll watch sportcenter in the morning.
Good night!
